We Tried Every Store-Bought Hummus & These Are The Ones Worth Buying

  • Delish taste-tested more than 15 store-bought hummus options to find the best tubs to buy.
  • We focused on classic hummus styles but also sampled chocolate hummus for dessert fans.
  • Ithaca, Cedar’s, and Little Sesame were standouts for flavor, texture, and overall quality.

What’s not to love about hummus? The creamy, hearty dip is one of the most beloved snacks, and because it comes in so many flavors, there’s truly a little something for everyone. Made with fiber- and protein-packed chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, and garlic, hummus often gets an extra boost of flavor from spices like paprika, cumin, sumac, and salt. It’s a pretty healthy (and tasty!) way to get your snack on.

While homemade hummus is a great option, sometimes you just don’t have the time. That’s where store-bought hummus comes in—and if you want to make it feel a little bit more special, you can add your own toppings or mix-ins to kick things up a notch.

Still, picking up the right tub of hummus at the grocery store can be overwhelming. Some people prefer a more tahini-forward option, while others like to go heavy on the garlic. To find the best of the best, we tried over 15 different kinds. While there are plenty of fun flavors out there (from creamy garlic to lemon dill), we stuck to classic hummus for our taste test. We also got our hands on a couple of chocolate hummus options for anyone who’s looking for a more dessert-forward hummus approach.

There were a handful of totally acceptable choices—including Sabra, Trader Joe’s Creamy Dreamy Hummus, and Esti—but a few took things from good to great. Here are our top picks:

Best Overall: Ithaca

With 12 different flavors, Ithaca is likely a brand you’ve seen at your local grocery store. In fact, it’s so well-known for its variety that it can be hard to find the classic version—so we picked up a tub of the Ithaca x Graza Olive Oil & Sea Salt hummus instead. It still tastes like hummus, but the extra olive oil gives a new dimension of flavor. It might not be the best pick if you’re looking for traditional hummus, but team Delish enjoyed this iteration. Test Kitchen Manager even Alejandro Valdes Lora called it “gentrified deliciousness.”

Best Classic: Cedar’s

If you want classic hummus done right, Cedar’s is the brand that does it best. Everyone described it as the perfect, straightforward hummus, with one editor calling it “very soft and light” with a “nice flavor.” Because of its approachable flavor, it’s also a great pick when you’re hosting guests or for dressing up with toppings at home.

Best Luxe: Little Sesame

This hummus is a little pricier than other brands, but if you want to really impress, Little Sesame is the way to go. Editors loved it, calling it “the perfect hummus” and praising its creamy texture and balanced flavors.

Best Chocolate: Boar’s Head Dark Chocolate

Chocolate hummus wouldn’t be my personal first pick, but people are into it, so who am I to argue? We were only able to find two different brands, but the winner was Boar’s Head. Multiple people likened it to chocolate frosting, which, honestly, makes it a pretty perfect dipping situation.
